What is ‘Flakka’?

Flakka official alpha pyrrolidinopentiophenone, but also called “gravel, is a synthetic drug that provides strong hallucinations. The drug has similarities to amphetamines, cocaine and speed, but has stronger effects. The active substance called cathinone and is removed from the khat plant, whose leaves since the thirteenth century in Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya are used as a stimulant.

What is the drug Flakka made of?

Flakka (also called gravel or flocka) is a combination of heroin and crack, or heroin and methamphetamines, but in reality, Flakka is just a newer-generation version of bath salts. Bath salts, in general, are synthetic psychoactive drugs made in large quantities in foreign drug labs. It belongs to a class of chemicals, called cathinones, which affect the central nervous and cardiovascular systems. Gravel, or Flakka, has been compared to “bath salts,” a designer drug whose name comes from drug dealers disguising and selling it as true bath salts.

Tests on the hair of MDMA users – who said that they didn’t use other drugs – found that they had consumed new synthetic drugs including ‘flakka’.  Researchers from New York University believe that the find shows that the people are being sold drugs such as Alpha-PVP instead of MDMA, according to Alternet.

What is Flakka drug effects?

Like cathinone, alpha-PVP is a type of stimulant, colloquially called an “upper.” Uppers are linked with feelings of euphoria, enhanced alertness and wakefulness, and increased movement — all symptoms that are similar to those experienced by people on other drugs like amphetamines or cocaine.

Florida Sun-Sentinel columnist Daniel Vasquez says, ‘It is a dangerous designer drug that turns people into zombies, and the psychological effects could be permanent.

‘Oh, and flakka is sweeping across South Florida like nothing seen before or since the crack cocaine wave.

‘They strip off their clothes and run outdoors, acting very violent with adrenaline-surged strength,’ said Jim Hall of the Applied Research on Substance Use and Health Disparities at Nova Southeastern University in Broward County, Florida. ‘It can take four or more cops to hold them down.’

In 2015, a man high on gravel was arrested in Melbourne after he ran around naked and reportedly tried having sex with a tree.

Joseph J. Palamar of New York University said, ‘We found that many people in the nightclub and festival scene have been using new drugs and our previous research has found that many of these people have been using unknowingly.’
