Call of Duty: Modern Warfare may already be available for anyone who pre-ordered the PlayStation 4 edition. But if you’re planning on hopping online and enjoying multiplayer with friends it seems you’re out of luck right now.

It seems that years under Activision’s belt haven’t prepared them to really nail a Call of Duty launch yet, as players are logging in to Modern Warfare on PlayStation 4 and seeing the “Connecting to Online Services” message that fails after a few moments. Luckily, if you’re not interested in sitting around waiting for nothing to happen, you can choose “Go Offline” to play the campaign, local co-op, or local multiplayer mode.

Fans aren’t exactly pleased that they’re already experiencing the yearly Call of Duty tradition.

At the time of this post, the servers remain down, but the reason is unclear. The official Activision and Call of Duty social media pages are dark, and the official Activision support page states that online services are still functional for all platforms. The servers may be offline on purpose until the rest of the world can catch up, but that doesn’t seem likely.

It looks like right now everyone’s just stuck waiting around for the game to work. You really should experience the campaign before diving into the multiplayer mode anyway, but this is really getting silly.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is officially available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 25.
