Preference Manager is a fantastic little free app from a company called Digital Rebellion. It does exactly what the name implies. It allows you to backup and manage your Logic (and Pro Tools) preferences.
What Digital Rebellion say about Preference Manager
Preference files store information about user preferences, window layouts, toolbar placements and launch settings. Sometimes these can become corrupted, causing problems. Preference Manager allows you to trash corrupted preferences and keep backups of working preference files in order to quickly restore your settings.
Reset your editing application back to its factory defaults to help solve problems.
Backup and Restore
Store copies of your settings, keyboard layouts, window layouts and more. These can be restored back to your system or used to sync settings to other computers. Keep a stable set of preferences backed up so you can restore them in the event of a problem, without having to reset everything back to the defaults.
Lock settings to prevent others from changing them.
Automatically save copies of your preferences weekly so you can restore back to a working copy even if you forget to backup.
Best of all, it works with a host of applications many of us use regularly:
- Adobe Creative Cloud
- Adobe Creative Suite 5 or higher
- Avid Media Composer 5 or higher
- Final Cut Pro X
- Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP 6) or higher
- Logic Pro X
- Pro Tools 8 or higher
The download is absolutely free. There’s no email address or form to fill out. Simply click on this link and the app will be downloaded to your hard drive.
