This Saturday, the Brooklyn Museum will host the opening celebration of their upcoming exhibition Soul of a Nation: Art in the Age of Black Power. The event begins at 10:30 am with a tour with assistant curator Ashley James, followed by a performance by Brooklyn-based dance company March Movements. Throughout the day, there will be a number of talks and panel conversations featuring curators, artists, and critics.
Later that night, the museum will host the Soul in the Horn dance party to celebrate the opening of the exhibition. At the party, guests can enjoy an after-hours viewing of the exhibition, along with horn-infused musical sets with hits from the 1960s through the 1980s. There will be DJ sets performed by DJ Natasha Diggs, DJ Spinna, and DJ Dorian Missick as well as horn instrumental performances by Casey Benjamin, Kenyatta Beasley, Rodney James, Kyla Moscovich, and Angeleisha L. Rodgers. Guests can also have their portrait taken by visual artists Rog and Bee Walker of Paper Monday.
